The original blue finish on this rifle is excellent in some areas and shows wear in others, typical of an issued rifle used in World War 2. This Type 38 has one of the nicer bores we have seen in years in these rifles. The rifling still looks very strong with nice sharp lands the length of the bore. The bore in this Type 38 is exceptional, bright throughout with no pitting, erosion, or visible imperfections. It displays all of the desirable early features described above and the large protrusion on the safety knob at the rear of the bolt, which is only found on the early rifles. As mentioned earlier, it is an all-matching rifle including the bolt but does have a ground Mum typical of surrendered Japanese rifles. This particular rifle is serial number 758,496, making it's date of manufacture approx. These pre-1929 guns (below 2,000,000 serial range) exhibit excellent overall fit and finish, beautifully strawed small parts, and a commerical quality gloss blue finish over expertly polished metal surfaces. During the 1929 expansion of the Japanese armaments industry the Tokyo Arsenal was into the 2 million serial number range of Type 38 rifles. The Tokyo Arsenal took a great deal of pride in their construction and was the only arsenal in the Japanese supply system that manufactured the Type 38 until 1929, when additional arsenals began production of the rifle. These early-production Type 38 Arisaka's are beautiful rifles by any standard. It is an all-matching rifle and is not import marked, likely a G.I.'s trophy bring-back. This is a beautiful 1920's production Type 38 Arisaka rifle made for the Imperial Japanese Military by the Koishikawa Arsenal, otherwise known as Tokyo Arsenal.
